1000 up & Numeracy Ninjas Skill Books weeks 21-30 now live

Skill Books weeks 21-30 now live

The Numeracy Ninjas Skill Books for weeks 21-30 are now live on the site. This should take you and your students with daily numeracy practice through to the other side of the Easter holidays. We’ll aim to publish the final set (weeks 31-40) over Easter. You will also need to download the updated answers powerpoint from the Ninja Skill Books page too.

1000 up!

In the penultimate week of the autumn term, we passed 1000 schools worldwide using Numeracy Ninjas! We are completely blown away by the support the project has received and thank you all sincerely for your kind words and constructive suggestions to make Ninjas even better. It goes to show that the issue we noticed in our own school- all students having differing fluency gaps in elementary numeracy skills, no matter their current maths attainment on assessments- was a similar problem that needed tackling around the globe.

Rest assured, we have lots of ideas in the pipeline for taking Ninjas to the next level. I’m very much looking forward to sharing some of these with you in the coming year and onwards.

Impact

We continue to monitor the impact Ninjas is having on our students’ numeracy fluency at Wyvern College. We are sampling the Ninja Scores (out of 30) in each class weekly.

Mean Ninja scores by class sampled weekly- wks 1-14

It is pleasing to see the continued progress of classes across the current attainment spectrum. Numeracy Ninjas is specifically designed to build long-term retention and contextual transfer of numeracy skills and is therefore not meant to be a quick-win. Building retention requires spaced practice over time and each specific skill is addressed on a 3-week rotation meaning each skill has appeared approximately 3-4 times now.

*Note about the line graph- all our classes are continuing with Ninjas into the spring term (the 7g3 class included). We need to collect the data for 7g3 in weeks 12-14; they did do Ninjas in these weeks.

Grand Masters

Now we’re at the end of the autumn term we’re going to award our second round of Grand Masters. These will be two students in each class- the most improved and the highest attaining. Don’t forget about the free certificates available on the promotional materials page if you’d like to award Grand Master status to some of your own students!
